Is the censorship in the US a result of religious influence in state affairs?

A lot of the censorship is simply to keep decent materials in the media, music, television and such and keep stuff like graphic violence, depiction of illegal activities (such as drug use and crime), rude and obscene language, and socially immoral behavior off. If religion, as you suggest, had anything to do with it (say like Christianity) censorship would be much worse than you think it is now. Imagine more TV shows and movies with Kirk Cameron.
