Who should claim the newborn as a dependent?

My wife and I just had a baby and were wondering who should claim him on their taxes or if it matters. We file jointly, so the way I see it is it will be our combined income with a dependent, so it really should matter if I actually take the exemption or if she does. Is there any benefit to having her claim him, she makes less, or me claiming him?
